Because he was misinformed and somehow believed I had an LT1 although I told him the years 98-02 ...he can't get the LS1 transmission in and even with a refund that will push me into December to complete the car. Its about to get wet and cold here in Seattle and I don't want to be on the bus when that happens.

Well, I got lucky. We found an LS1 Transmission, going to buy it for $200 - needs a rebuild but I will get it done free minus the rebuild kit - so $425 for a LS1 transmission and I'm selling my LT1 tranmission. Will probably push things back 2 - 3 weeks but atleast it will be perfect compatibility.

That's a heck of a deal. LS T-56 cores are going for $900+. By the time I bought mine, did a stage III rebuild and put a scattershield on it I was out about $2300.

Yeah, I was thinking that too in the long run, was originally in a rush but I better bite the bullet and take care of this right here and now.

Auto cores are usually between $200 - $300 - but I got a good deal on this because my Mechanics dad is going to rebuild it so all in all I will come out around the same price I paid for my original transmission and I'll just sell what I have to make the money back.

                ------------------

                UPDATES!

Old motor and transmission is now out the car. Any takes for a busted 3.8L (Parts?) and an 4L60E tranny that very occasionally slips between 1st and 2nd?

New motor: Wiring harness is in, Headers are on, sitting on Kmember now.

                Remaining Parts:
                Starter.
Transmission Fluid Filler Tube & Dipstick.
                Exhaust work.

                Down the road:
                Cruise control module.
                Black and Silver leather seats
                FAST or BBK Intake
                LS6 Cam
                Larger TB
                12 Bolt Rear End
Racetronix Fuel Pump (yes lets try this again)
                383 Stroker Kit
                Procharger

I'll calculate how much this costed me alittle later, I spent in the ballpark of $3,500 for LS based parts (this isn't including exhaust, also my car needs tires so my overall price is going to be alittle higher)

                              Tallying Costs:

                              5.3L Engine - $900 (1,900 miles)
                              Transmission - $425 (Rebuilt 4L60E)
                              Transmission Dipstick - $30
                              Torque Converter - $50
Accessories - $300 (minus Alternator and bracket pulley)
                              Radiator | Hoses | Alternator | Gas Pedal Assembly - $280
Wiring Harness - $500 (Including harness, labor to rework, manual fan switch, electric w/p switch, interior neon switches, ect)
                              PCM - $230 (Tuned for V6 gauges, 3.42 gears, 160* thermo)
                              K-Member - $350 (Price shipped)
                              Tie Rods - $40
                              Long Tubes - $180
                              AIR / EGR Blockoffs - $25
                              LID - $100
                              Belts | Idler Pulley - $65

-- and I was dead on with my estimate, in parts I spent about $3,485 for LS Engine related equipment... So this swap can be done pretty cheap if you are patient and willing to look around for deals. - Keep in mind I'm also putting a 3" catback on so I'm spending a bit more than this.

                              High Flow Cats: $70
                              Muffler: $50
                              Exhaust Labor: $250

-- and I'm paying $1k for labor as well...anyhow, if you're capable of doing all the work yourself then $4k can net you a low mileage 5.3L / rebuilt trans and all the LS hardware to go ontop of it.
