    didnt have the heads off. just the headers for the exhaust.

    i'll try a new header gasket

      so... a bad header gasket or a few bolts not tightened enough COULD cause the exhaust fumes/smoke to come out of the top of the headers right?

          then yes, tightening the bolts will solve that problem. If your car is producing white exhaust fumes, your problem is a failed gasket

              Well since you took the headers off and not the heads I'd say replace the header gasket duhr :slap: . Maybe it just me but I don't trust gaskets enough to re-use them once bolts have been tightened down once. And also for future reference.. If you take your engine apart any further than you have, get new gaskets ahead of time. With a history like yours, i'd say it would be a great idea. :P
