    No special tools are needed. Don't forget to bleed the air out of the system, this is probably the hardest part of the job. Good Luck!

      ew... bleed my brakes.. god, I don't even know how to approach that

        is it safe to drive with the hose clamped?

          depends on what you consider safe. If the clamp falls off, you end up with no brakes. I personally would not drive around like that. I have lost brakes before, and it is a terifying expierence I never want to relive [img]smile.gif[/img] I thought you bought a new booster and were in the process of installing it?

            hehe i've been driving with everything in the condition it has been in. If I smoosh the brakes, it stops.. I take it that's not a great idea... Got a 3 hour trip comin' up.. here comes the clamps [img]smile.gif[/img]

                jc,

                Bleeding brakes is not that big of a deal. it does take 2 people one inside and one under the car. I usuallu start with the back ones there should be a little bleed valve on the back of the brake drum. all you have to do is have someone depress the brakes and then open the valve till you get a constant streem of fluid then close the valve and move to the next one. After replacing the brake booster you are probably going to have a lot of air n there I would probably go around the car twice to make sure. good luck and hope that this helps.

                  Just remember to tell the person working the pedal not to pump the pedal. Just push it in, and hold, make sure you close the bleed valve before they release the pedal, or air will suck back in. When the pedal returns, open the valve and have them push the pedal again, (remembering to hold the pedal in, until you close the valve. You will see the fluid suirting out, and when there is air, you will be able to see it clearly. When you have a smooth steady stream in the time that it takes the brake pedal to go to the floor,all the air is out. Make sure and close the valve while the stream is steady and before the pedal goes all the way in. With a little practice, you will get the timming down. Work your way around the car, back to front, Also, make sure you have extra brake fluid to add to the reservior as you loose the fluid comming out of the valves. The best way to do a bleed job is to attach a piece of hose over the bleed valve stem, and have a clear jar with a little fluid in it. With the hose down in the fluid, you can see the air bubbles as the brake pedal is being pushed, once you see just fluid, you know that all the air is out, plus with the hose in the fluid, you don't risk sucking up air back into the line! This way works great, Plus you don't make a mess squirting fluid all over the place.
