  • ~ Will a 97 engine work in a 98? ~

Found an engine out of a 97 on Craigslist for $200. My guess is its complete.

105K miles and is said to be in great condition.

Could I just install and go or will it not work with my wireing/PCM?

    Any ideas guys?

Sensors and all? A/C? O2? Plug and play? No issues with programming on the PCM?

You need to use the 98 wiring harness, PCM and sensors.

        Block, heads, intake are common.

everything is the same, just unhook your wiring harness and drop the engine out, slide the 97 in and reattach your harness and go.

Ah so no 97 sensors with my 98 PCM. Got it

The safe bet is to use the 98 sensors. The 97 may work, but without checking every sensor p/n I don't know.

ALL THE SENSORS on a 97 engine is the SAME as 98 engine. the wiring harness from the 98 should plug right into all the sensors from the 97.
(id use the sensors that youve replaced recently. "no sense in using old sensors that youve already replaced once")

NO. The 97 and 98 wiring harness are a different p/n. One or more of the sensors are different.

Hmm I need to make a list and compare each one. Just wondering how I can do that... The easiest way...

Anyone know of a parts vendor site that lists all other vehicles a specific part fits?

                        tell you what man.

id go ahead and get it. (its a great deal and your not going to run into enough problems to make it not a good deal)

                        just do it.
                        swap it out.
you'll be fine. the (engines) are identical.

It can be tedious work going through and finding the right picture, then the right part, and then comparing p/n's but it's the best way to ensure that the parts are or are not interchangeable between years...

it still doesnt matter, if he is just swapping the engine out, there is no need to change or mess with any of the sensors.

the old computer/wiring harness can be used.

nope sensors are the same, pinouts are different at the PCM maybe, but the sensors themselves are the same. No need to swap sensors out unless the 97 has some bad ones. Just use the 98 harness and it will be a direct swap
