  • New to Cam and valvetrain...

I was just wondering if you could change your valve springs without removing anything but the valve covers (dumb question?)?

and if you could put in a cam without taking off the intake manifold?

To change the valvesprings, you have to take off the rockers, engine lift brackets (have fun with the passenger side ;) ) and ICM/coil packs as well. Other than that, there is nothing else to remove.

Here is a good write up from a member of this site who swapped his valvesprings and rockers: http://home.comcast.net/~grayman99/rocker-review.htm

As far as the not removing the intake mani to swap a cam.....I dont know, good question.

i dont see how you could leave the intakes on and still manage to get the lower intake gaskests on.

You don't need to take the intakes off, but no one has tried it the way smoke panther has showed, so whoever goes first is taking a big risk :)

There are holes in the block where you can insert dowels to hold up the lifters/pushrods.

thanks guys, that's some good info.

I'm going to start looking for vavle springs and rockers (since you don't have to remove the head :) after I get some suspension upgrades in :()

and someday a ways in the future do the cam

so...can anyone give me a good website for finding valve springs and rockers?

I'm looking for ones that will give me the best performance without any other engine internal upgrades...(I have to change my valve cover gaskets so might as well do what I can while I'm in there...)

                      what about LS6 springs...http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp...d=211&catid=48

I'm not going to do a cam...so what would be the best combination of springs and rockers

yes I checked them out online...so would 1.9 Rockers w/ LS6 valve springs be a good combination?

Time for a noobish question now, but i don't know jack about the engine internals really: What good does replacing the valve springs (and rockers, etc.) do?
