• HP Upgrades 3.1lt

I'm trying to come up with some HP upgrades for my 3.1lt V6 (191ci). I was looking at the following items:

1) New Distributor
2) New Flywheel/Flexplate
3) New Torque Converter

Any suggestions?

Well, since you want a new distributor, why not get a whole MSD setup with a -6A ignition and blaster coil too?
Also, maybe a lighter aluminum driveshaft to go with the other drivetrain mods.... Maybe even carbon fiber??
Got a limited slip diff? Won't add hp, but a friend of mine with a v6 had one put in and his 60' times dropped noticably.
Then there's always the usual stuff: pulleys, chip, intake, port&polish, performance valve job, shift kit, etc.

battery relocation kit, fiberglass hood, lighter rims/tires, upgrade suspension, loose 15-20 pds of weight, loose spare & pick up can of fix-a-flat. custom cai/ram air intake. MSD or MAllory also makes aftermarket distributors. about $300 though, full roller rockers, also about $300.

If you wouldn't mind posting a list of mods that I could do (under a reasonable budget)? Perhaps listing brand names and model types? I would most greatly appreciate it!

Thanks ...

Thanks, I drive a highly modded 97, but my fiance has a 1990 3.1 that I'm about to mod. What do you think I should do first.
1. Chip
2. Exhaust
3. pulleys (I saw those last night on tbyrne)
4. Intake

do intake & exhaust first. you will see better gains & then do the pullies & chip. You will be able to appreciate those more when the intake & exhaust are done.

see "my" tune-up post in this section: Tune Up

a properly tuned stock 6 will always run smoother/better than an out of tune modded 6.

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...
