    Re: Retarted clutch...

700 seems a little expensive to me if all they are doing is replacing the clutch. Now if they are doing the flywheel, slave, and master it's a deal. If not you are getting ripped off.

Figure a new stock clutch kit cost $200 and they comes with the clutch, pilot bearing, and throw out bearing. So they are charging you 500 bucks for r&r? that is crazy!

fyi a new slave is around 70 bucks and a new master is around 100

    Abbott long tubes,homemade true duals,slp ram air,whisper lid,eibach springs,kyb shocks,BMR subframe connectors, BMR LCA reloc brackets,BMR LCAs. T-top/manual converted

i bought an OEM clutch and it was more than 200.

      the flywheel is pretty expensive.

I think that's a pretty good deal, and he already stated above it's for all of it.

That is a bit expensive, but if you are not comfortable do not attempt it yourself. Make sure they resurface the flywheel, install a new throwout bearing, and make sure it comes with a warranty.

I have done many rear wheel drive clutches, front wheel drive clutches, and a few heavy truck clutches. The easiest job ever took me a full day.

For an amateur plan on a weekend just to be safe.

The first one I ever did alone was a two day job. Day one was to pull it, clean it, and get the flywheel resurfaced. The second day was reassembly.

Thats a good price on just labor

I've had my clutch replaced 2 times both with nothing special and it cost over 800 for one at a "shop" and the other I had AMMCO do and it was 1100 or so. Right now my clutch is leaking fluid somewhere but I dont feel like spending that much money on swapping my clutch out until I get more miles on it. It's cheaper to just add brake fluid

Its in the final process...Its an entire new clutch assembily, because only 1 throw-out bearing combined with a couple other problems ruined the entire assembily. It was a twin plated clutch, too...so I replace a twin plate with a twin plate. I should get it back on Wednesday.

I pulled the tranny in my camaro quite a few times.

It takes 1/2 hr just to get to damn bell housing bolts out, maybe 1 hr.

Plus all the other stuff you have to disconnect, lining it up right etc. etc.

If your sort of have a mechanical background, and think you could do it... MAYBE?

But if you dont, I would highly suggest not doing it. Pain in the @ss.

I had so many problems come across when doing it, it wasnt fun.
In our case it took us an hour to get the drive shaft off.

lmfao! My leather couch is looking a bit worn though...I do want to attack some corners, but I dont think a Ford F-150 or a Dodge Stratus can handle my kind of driving.

No joke. I've been driving my dad's 89 Chevy pickup with a carbureted 305 SB from a Monte SS. It sucks. I miss the Camaro. I did see it sitting over in front of some rinky dink barbershop last week. At least he hasn't wrapped it around a tree.
