I'm surprised that you passed the under hood inspection. Maybe it's because your in Carolina. The smog inspections maybe different from California standards.
yea, there's lee-way here...they didnt even do an "underhood" inspection when i had mine checked out...
In AZ, they just plug the scanner in, if it is 96' and above. If their are no codes you pass.

Have a friend that lives here in Cali but he goes and does his smog test out in Arizona for some reason. He would never tell me how he did it he just said he had some contacts.
In NY they do a full visual, engine bay, under-car front to back, and plug in test. (no sniffer though)
My tech told me where to get my o2 sim :D lucky for me he owns two camaros.
He also gave my muffler (a.k.a. Y-pipe :D) a pass. Somehow with just a box-type resonator (mid body) it sounds nice.
Full visual. Almost failed. I blacked out my rear markers and 3rd tail light.
Illegal in NY to black out 3rd tail light, I guess I did it too dark. Luckily I knew the mechanic.
Got the car up on the lift and looked at EVERYTHING!!!
Got in the engine bay and looked at serpentine belt.
Plugged in the OBD2 and turned the car on.
No sniffer, so I guess I can gut my cat and put an 02 sim after it....

Not if they jack the car up and look at EVERYTHING! They'd definitely notice a sim or that the post car 02 sensor is not plugged in.
