• 98 Firebird 3.8 Nitrous Anybody?

I am thinking about purchasing a dry nitrous system for my 98 pontiac firebird but before I purchase one I would like to ask a question to someone else with a 98 firebird 3.8L that has a nitrous system.

What system did you use? On LMP Performance they say the 3.8L nitrous system will only fit 99+, I know there are differences from the 98 motor to the 99 and up motor. I am worried about buying the wrong system.

Please help out, a link would be very helpful.

I found the kit you recommended but it does not come with a bottle. I am trying to find a complete kit, is this one similar to the one you recommended?

I was talking with my brother, who is a mechanic, today about setting up a NOS system on my firebird. He is trying to talk me out of it because it is my daily driver and he does not want me to blow my motor, or beat it up. I want to hook up a 50 shot(don't want to go to outrageous just looking for a nice affordable boost), I can afford it, but my brother says giving my car a shot of nitrous is like putting 30,000 miles on my car in one shot which scares me, is this true?

not true at all. If everything is hooked up correctly and you are spraying at WOT it will be fine. A 50 shot is small and will not damage your engine if used correctly. When I say correctly I mean using all the safety stuff and not spraying under partial throttle.

I originally started with a 50 shot and hardly noticed it other than RPMs jumping up some. 75+ shot is where you start to feel the nitrous hitting.

30,000 miles on one shot is completely false

Yet another guy who has a complete misconseption about the use of nitrous. Has your brother ever even used nitrous? Honestly, if you have the safety gear, your engine is well maintained, and you choose the appropriate shot, you should have no problems at all. If nitrous blew up every motor that used it, zex, nos, nx, tnt ect, would all be out of buisness because no one would use nitrous.

Yeah I thought that sounded unreasonable, only thing that sucks now is how I have to talk my brother into installing the kit after I buy it... I have no idea how to install it

The kit really isn't too bad to install. The hardest thing you have to be able to do is wire the arming and WOT switch (well it was for me anyways, I hate wiring). The instructions are very straight forward and easy to understand.

yes just follow the directions..its really not that hard at all..as far as nitrous damage to the engine..i've been spraying for like 4 years now and the only thing thats evered happened to my engine was a blown head gasket..and i was spraying EXTREMELY high shots..stick with the 85 shot that comes with the kit..do your homework and use it correctly..and you'll be just fine..you're also going to want to upgrade the fuel pump for anything over a 75 shot

How high of a shot did you spray to blow a head gasket? I was looking to start out with a 50 shot but I saw the kit you recommended only comes with a 75/100, is NX any good for nitrous? They have a kit that offers 25/50/75 shots
The first kit under Nitrous:
http://www.ftpp.net/V6Main.htm

Then for a fuel pump would this pump be okay for a 50-75 shot?

Also one more thing, I assume WOT means you have the pedal to the floor, am I right to assume that?

First, you will not need a fuel pump for the 50-75 shot. When you are doing around a 100 shot, then you should get one.

Second, WOT is when you can't push the pedal any further, but there is a WOT switch that comes with kits, goes onto your throttle linkage so it activates when at full throttle.

As for the 50 shot NOS kit, all you do is swap the jets for the shot size, so yes there is a 50 shot most likely

i was running consistant low 13s on a 150 shot until i forgot to turn my pump on..like 97rs4life said..you wont need for a 75 shot..i would recommend one for anything higher than that though
