Would it be safe if i decided to slightly port my upper and lower intake? Not a lot just to take the roughness off and make it smooth. And if i did would i feel any little extra power?

    Re: Intakes

smooth is not good, you need to have some roughness to them.

do you have tuning capabilities or heads ported? If not you won't feel any difference because gains will be small

      Re: Intakes

Oh i thought it was better to have them smooth. i thought it would allow a little more air flow and flow a bit faster. And no i dont have those. Not yet anyways.

          Re: Intakes

having ROUGH intakes is all around NOT good for performance.

smooth alows air to flow freeeeeely throughout the system and into the combustion chambers.

idk what he was talking about when he said something about having it rough is somewhat good>.?

          makes abs. no sence.

its like saying shuvving potatoes on your exhaust is good.

cause it restrics airflow and therefor makes your engine not go fast or not at all.

          yep its pretty good.

          yeahhhhhhh-n-o-

i think he had a typo.

          no offence rs 4 life.

          but honestly

ive ALWAYS understood that SMOOTH was good in terms of airflow

you dont even here about people saying.

YEP that looks like a good steady current of slow wind.

          haha.

          sorry

                  no.

having a mildly rough surface will let air fill up in the pockets, and the incoming air can glide smoother into the combustion chambers that way compared with being dragged by going up against just metal

                    Re: Intakes

The rough surfaces should create turbulence to promote better atomization of the fuel into the air.

                      Re: Intakes

whoa, missed this thread after I posted in it, so resurrecting it. z38camaro, you don't want your intakes smoothed and polished as your air and fuel needs to mix in those and smooth will hurt the performance. Porting them is good, but don't polish. Check any intake manifolds that have been reworked and you will not find any with a nice shiny finish to them because any machinist will know not to polish an intake. Port them out and gasket match them up and you will be fine

z38camaro, again please leave this forum and/or just post in lounge and not in any tech threads because you continue to lead people astray.
