Good morning. My 96 3.8 camaro has oil in the radiator. One person tells me it's the intake gasket that is leaking into the water, and to change the gaskets. Another one tells me that oil can't get into the cooling system that way?. That it has to be something else. Any help before I get into it would be great. Thank, Pat.

Re: Intake gasket
Nuh uh... Intake gaskets failing won't get you oil in your coolant.. Oil in your coolant means you've damaged your block. It's not a very common problem to encounter.. The time I cracked a block I was told to look for oil in the coolant as a sign to tell if the block was cracked.. You're most likely going to have to get the block and the heads magnafluxed to see if they're cracked.. Sorry dude.. That sucks..Last edited by Timwiltshire; 07-19-2008, 12:39 AM.

A leaking upper intake gasket, lower intake gasket or a throttle body gasket can mix oil and coolant. The throttle body gasket leak is a common way for this to happen.
I HIGHLY doubt the block is cracked.Last edited by Shodown; 07-19-2008, 09:53 AM.sigpic

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...02-07-2020, 10:30 PM
