I removed my intake duct, but kept the tube part that is hooked up to the intake. I was wondering if i really needed the part where my air filter sits in, and can i add something so that trash won't get into my intake? I just wanted some free flow into my intake.

Are you saying that you want to remove the filter tray? You could do that, but you'd need a cone filter or that K&N intake kit to replace it.

Because you won't have a filter if you remove the tray, unless you stick some sort of cone filter or something similar onto the end of the intake tubing. If you want to run an open throttle body, be my guest. Have fun sucking crap into your engine.

Are you asking why you need an air filter? I'm I reading this correctly?

No im not asking why do i need a filter, I am asking do i need the specific one on my car from the factory, because i can make my own filter and go with that.

You can use whatever air filter you want if you can get it to fit. You might see better FLOW from a cone filter, but not better performance, since it will only be sucking in hot engine air. Your best bet would be a whisper lid and something like the ssra (ram air kit). This still utilizes the stock filter tray, but adds a new lid to it, and sucks cool air from underneath the car into the filter.
