Does a 3'' Exhaust systen produces more power than 2.5''.

Im thinking of adding a 3" system to my camaro. I was just wondering if the 3" would produce a little more power and sound.

from what i've heard... you don't gain any power from a 3"... maybe a little torque... and the sound entirely depends on which system you get... i have a 3" magnaflow catback... and it has a nice deep slightly mellowed sound... until i open the cutout ;) ... http://mods.firebirdv6.com/intakeexhaust.html ... go to the catback section... you can also search cause i believe this has been discussed quite a bit...

No one's ponied up the money to dyno a car w/ 2.5" then switch it to a 3" and dyno it again, so there's no conclusive evidence about how it effects power...However, all the record-holding NA cars have 3" piping, so that speaks to it a little bit

most seem to agree that the torque is moved up in the rpm range. the low end torque is less, but it's still there, just in higher rpms.

my cutout when i open it seems like i lose get up to it...when i cap it it seems to get it back...i would think it hurt the take off.
