  • Pros and cons of a Cut Out

    Hello everybody,

I have a 2000 Pontiac Firebird Sport Package with the 3.42 rear end that is pretty much stock other than SLP cold air induction, Flowmaster exhaust, and 3000 stall TQ converter. I would like to put a cut out on my exhaust, since I have a guy that will do it cheap, BUT I don't want my car to sound like an import. Will the cut out bring back that terrible V6 rasp that I had with the stock dual exhaust?

      Hmmm,

Maybe I'll just stick with saving for a high flow cat along with the headers that I'm also saving for.

does anyone have a clip of what a cut out sounds like on the 3.8L V6?

it opens the exhaust. itll either make it sound real good or really bad. but as far as performance: it opens up the exhaust a lot more in the higher RPM band and allows for more top end horsepower, but you loose low end torque because of loss in back pressure. (just what ive learned from dyno numbers)
