  • Pipe Expander???

I was wondering if anyone knows of any place that will rent you a pipe expander. Or even how much do you think a muffler shop would charge me to just expand my over the axle pipe? I am wondering because I am going from my stock 2.25 pipe to a 3 inlet on the muffler. Thanks a lot!

I had to get the Y pipe outlet on my pacesetters expanded a bit to fit over my 3" cat. They don't charge you...just tip the tech that does it for you. I gave the dude 5 bucks. Expanding a pipe is a 2 minute job.

Yeah but I am going to cut my muffler off my car and then drive it to the shop and have a guy expand it and then I am going to drive back to my buddies shop and then put the muffler and everything else on. Do you think that my I pipe and over the axle pipe will be able to hang there for about 5-6 miles to and from the shop. because if that is what I will have to do then that is what I will.

BLLDOGG how much will you be able to expand the pipe. Will it only go like 1/4 to 1/2" or more? I would like to be able to go 3/4 so i can have my stock over the axle with a 3" out into my magnaflow. if not then I will just oput a reducer on.

No, you definitely can't expand your pipe that much. I know with a 3" pipe you're pushing it if you expand more than 1/16". Expand the pipe too much and it'll split.

And yes BLLDOG, my pipe was already expanded, but it needed to be expanded just a bit more to fit on my cat like I said.

pipe expanders are only designed to expand the pipe so that the inner diameter matches the original outer diameter. It'd probly be alot easier and alot less hassle to do a reducer like you said, they're pretty cheap at autozone.
