  • Intake sensor, what is it???

    1993 Firebird 3.4L
There is a sensor located before the air filter in a plastic housing. What is it??? I have heard that these cars do not have a MAF sensor, so I was just wondering what it was. Thanks...

It sounds like your IAT (intake air temp) sensor which affects timing. If its cold outside your car can run slightly more timing and thus more power. There is a ghetto mod out there that involves putting a resister in the sensor to trick it into thinking the intake air is always cold. While that might be okay for the drag strip, I would NOT recommend messing with the IAT otherwise.
