  • Flowmaster 40 series?

I had a local exhaust shop put a Flowmaster 40 series exhaust on my 97 3.8(Or so I thought). I'm very unimpressed with the sound, and I checked underneath, only to find what I believe to be the 80 series. 1 in, 2 pipes coming out. I know the 80 series is made for the camaro, but am I able to put a 40 series under my car? The guy claimed it was a 40 series, but I don't think there's any way it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

did he say what kind of series 40 it was? I look on flowmastermufflers.com and didnt find a single 40 series muffler that was dual out with one out in the same side as the in.

See, neither could I, so I'm thinkin I got screwed. But doesn't anyone know if it is physically possible to put a 40 series under a Camaro?

it will fit but the piping is wrong. to have it work, he would have had to run the passenger tailpipe from the driver side where it would come out of the muffler either around the front or back of the muffler to the passenger side.

is this the one your are talking about?

I have heard of people using a 40 but how? i was under the impression that the 80 series was the only cross flow muffler. im obviously missing something :(

You can put whatever muffler you want on your car, how it looks or sounds is another story. A lot of people don't realize this and just buy catback systems. I'm about to redo my whole exhaust again... Blah!

I've seen a picture of that muffler on our F-bodies, before. I'll do what I can to dig it up. You are correct, Blldogg, the pass. side pipe comes out of the muffler with a U-pipe, goes across the back of the muffler, then bends a final time to come out from under the car. Seems awfully restrictive, to me.

honestly, that looks like it could work the same way as the 80? If mounted horizantally, it is the same configuration. As far as what the flow pattern is inside of the muffler, i dont know.

yes, blldog, that is the muffler i have, one exit on the left for the tail pipe and two on the right, the back one on the right is my right tail pipe(if your looking at the back of my car), the other connects to my s pipe
