  • What's the Metal tube on high flow cats??

I noticed the majority of highflow cats have that metal tube on the side of it. What is that for and will it still work?? My factory cat doesn't have that.

It's the air inlet tube for cars with air pumps. V6 F-Bodies don't have air pumps so that tube should be plugged before install.

My 1993 V6 has an air pump, but the air is injected on the passenger side exhaust manifold instead of directly into the converter. This pump is also useless when headers are installed, at least on a 3.4L because the companies that make the headers don't make the fitting onto the headers for the air pump connection.

Better yet, just buy a cat without the air inlet tube.

As far as I know, any cat company should make them. I know Carsound (Magnaflow) and and Dynomax do, as well as Random Tech, Morflow and Catco. Don't bother with Random Tech, they just mark-up someone else's product and slap their sticker on it. One of my exhaust guys told me the Magnaflow ones are pretty good, but I've heard nothing but good reviews on this board as far as both quality and price for Catco, so they're probably the best way to go.
