  • catco ????

I think I've firgured out what has been causing the rattle in my exhaust. I think its the heat shield or something in my c.converter. Has anyone else had this problem???

Since I'll most likely end up replacing my converter, does anyone know where I can get a Random Technology high-flow- "bullet" c.converter???

do not waste your money on any cat jstu because it says "high flow" on it. the flow difference between a standard cat and a suppose high flow cat is not enough to net any gain in HP. even if there is some minor gain in power, it is not enough to justify the extra cost. buy a stock replacement or just fix teh weld on the cat shield.

You don't know cars very well do ye... flow is flow... more flow is more flow.. if your serious get a highflow cat or no cat.. if your like him.. find the cheapest thing that could be called a cat and put it on there. Could maybe write "converter" on a coffee can and have it welded on.

it could be the heat chield, or it could be the pipes rattling against the rear support brace, just over the rear axle. I'm thinkin bout wrapping a towel around the brace to keep it from rattling.

the only thing that will flow more than the 3"in/2.25" out stock cat, is one w/ a bigger outlet, say a 2.5" in/out or a 3" in/out. bigger inlet/outlet means better flow.

I have a 3" exhuast so the stock converter is no good. I also crawled undered my car today to find out exactly what was rattling and it was coming from the converter. I don't have any clearance problems.

I have the exact same problem, same car and engine. It isn't the heat shield on the bottom of the car, i believe it is the actual casing around the inner pipes of the cat(hard to explain, i believe its the drilled casing around it). I spent a long time testing things and trying to stop it, and it won't go away. Replace it with a decent cat. or just get rid of it. Im planning on just ridding of it all together.

*edit, nevermind you have a catco, and im talking about my stock cat.

we are talking about 10-15cfm on a 2000+cfm system. flow for flow that doesn't help. the only time i hear people claiming huge gains after switching to a "high flow" cat is when their stock cat is shot, melted/clogged.
if all you are worried about is flow then either gut your cat or make a test pipe to replace it. just swapping to a more expensive cat is not gonna help much.
even if you are looking for the best flow you are still looking in the wrong places. the highest flowing 3inch cats on teh market are the ones that gm put on stock 5.7 and larger vortec engined trucks.
