• 40 series vs 80 series?

i notice a lot of you guys have the 80 series muffler on your cars, but the muffler shop guy said the 40 series offers better performance and sound. does anyone have any experience with both and let me know which they liked better?

I have the 80 series on my 3.4L and it doesn't sound to bad, there isn't going to be any performance difference between the 40's or 80 series. A good thing to do is hear both of them before you pick.

I had the 80 series on my car for a few months. It sucked and I threw it away. I have run a straight pipe, cutout, 40 series, no cat, etc. and my favorite setup I have had was my 40 series mounted where the cat used to be with a small turndown welded on firing down and out. The 40 series sounds WAAAAY better!! I woud bet that the performance is about the same as just about any Flowmaster muffler, but it sounds reallyreallyreally good. I've been thinking about trying out a 30 series.

NEVER EVER go with the 80 series! I wanted the 40 but i also wanted dual tips. The guy at the shop said the 40 and 80 are the same but the 80 has dual outlets. Not True! The 40 has 2 chambers and the 80 has 4 which seems to me like that means more backpressure. I have heard that there is little or no power difference, I think the 40 would preform better but again I dont really know. What I can tell you is that on my 3.8 the 80 series sounds like a complete rice rocket. The 40 sounds great on my friends 3.8.

the difference in back pressure is honestly minimal that far from the engine and the flow is difference in not much either.
actually teh difference in flow and back pressure created by all the major brands of mufflers in the stock location is minimal. really all you shoudl be shopping for is the tone you like.
personally i prefer a 10series on a short system using turn downs before the axle.
