  • A/F Guage Question

I have a 98 Camaro and the O2 sensors ar located
2 on each of the manifolds and 1 behind the cat.
Im running my A/F guage from left manifold so its not giving me the right reading.
My plan is to get a O2 sensor and put it in to the Y-Pipe right about 1" before the cat.
My question is what kind of O2 sensor to get, there are 4,3,1 wire ones can i use the 1 wire one? to get the right reading on my A/F
    TY

there was a post on here a while back about this and i think that the concensus was that the 1 wire one would work. Try searching

what you can do is tap into the pass side front 02, run both wires to a single pole double throw SPDT toggle switch and then to the gauge. that way you can select on teh fly which bank your reading

just put a sensor bung before the cat right after the y-pipe comes together.

why drill and weld a bung and move teh position to a central location when you can read each bank seperatly (which is the point of having 2 02's anyway)?

you dont need to read both sepratly and you specially dont need to be flipping a switch going down the track. the point of having both is a for specific fuel tuning or whatever you want to call it. which is the computer's job

right. but the computer likes to see both banks to adjust for best performance. So logicly you would like to know the same information. It;s also cheeper and a lot faster then getting a shop to weld a new bung. Not to mention that if you need to buy and use another 02 just for the gauge you should be suplying it with power for the heating element. That would also be a bit of a pain.

Besides. he could make one run reading bank one. and then another reading bank 2. Installing a stwich is a very common and easy mod when using an AF gauge.

i think you can easily and for practically nothing have a muffler shop weld it on, get a sensor for an A/F gauge with the heater thing in it from Autometer along with the gauge in the same order. not that hard.

well. it sounds like he already has the gauge set up. So I doubt that he would like to shell out 150 bucks for a new sensor/gauge kit when for 5 bucks for wire and a $3 toggle he could be reading both banks on the same gauge and have more acurate information. If I had a header leak and was running rich from it on one bank I would like to know about it

The 3 wire sensor would be best. It will be heated and will give a better reading than a single wire would. They are relatively cheap too. You will have one data wire, one 12V+ wire and one negative(ground) wire. These are the sensors that we include in our single wire to 3-wire O2 kit. This is intended ofr 3.4L V6 engines with the single wire O2 sensor, but the concept is the same.

its great u have an a/f guage for ur car..however using the stock sensor u won't get accurate readings at all...if u have a need for one u should really shell out the money for a wideband o2 sensor. AEM UEGO is nice.

the stock o2 sensor is read on volts from 0.1-1v the widebands volt range is .1-5v i believe...giving u MUCH better accuracy.

stock o2 sensors that give out a/f ratios can be off by 1.4...

                          just letting u know
my 02 Lancer might be totaled, some 60 yr old lady in a van t-boned it in the driver side front wheel. if its totaled im either getting a v6 camaro or a 1g dsm...probably the camaro though!
