Well, we had a tornado and some flooding, so I've been busy with that. Going at 9am to get it done. I am getting the non-delta 40 series. I didn't say I hated Flowmaster. In fact, I love their products. I just HATED the way the 80 series sounded on the 3.8 :( I'll more than likely be trying on a few different brands and types before I decide on something, but from what I've had in the past on OTHER cars, the 40 series is what I like. Not really sure how it will sound with no cat/3" size/single dump pipe though. Not gonna run it all the way out the back. Going to dump it about mid way back pointing to the right like it is now.

Well, if you "loved" the slowmaster 80 series, you're really gonna love the 40 series. :D

OK!!! I'm back! I "test drove" several brands and types of mufflers before deciding on the non-delta 40 series. I tried:

Flowmaster
Dynomax
Glasspack
Metaltone
Trickflow
Flowtech Purple Hornies
Edelbrock

Now, the exhaust guy (Larry) would weld on a muffler, and I would drive around for a few miles. ALL of them were different. The glasspack and Hornies were LOUD. Almost like there wasn't anything even there, but those were bullet mufflers. The Metaltone and Trickflow sounded raspy down low, and pure rice/weedeater up high The Dynomax and Edelbrock sounded smooooth and toned down. REALLY quiet idle, but a pretty nice tone through most of the RPM range The Flowmasters I tried (70, 40, 30, and 50 series) All had a different tone, but I liked the 40 series the best. This is the LAST time I am changing my exhaust. (except for the addition of Pacesetter headers)I am running a 3" pipe in and out with no cat. The muffler is mounted where the catalytic converter used to be, and I have a short exhaust pipe coming out then pointing down and to the right, exiting under the rear passenger floorboard. It's not close enough to burn anything. It has a somewhat loud idle, and a nice deep tone until 3000 RPMs, then the weedeater kicks in :D I paid $136.32 total. I'll take pics this weekend. I got my work done at Rogers Exhaust in Winchester KY. EVERYONE goes to this shop. He's been around for decades, and it's a cash only/no questions asked/ all types of work done kinda place. His parking lot is like a car show on Saturday mornings

How exactly were you able to test all of those mufflers?

My family has been using this guy for YEARS. My dad, cousins, uncles and brothers have been customers since I was a baby. (They do alot of other things besides exhaust)I told the guy (Larry) about my problem with finding a good sounding exhaust and he told me to swing by and try a few mufflers out if I wanted, so I did.
