I was thinking that my pullies were ratteling but I found out that it is my cat converter and pipes. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

I had a problem w/ my ratteling also.

I thought it was my cat so i had a highflow put on...did nothing for the rattle, so i thought it was the heat shield over the cat, took it off and still nothing.

SO i took it in and found out that my "Y-Pipe" was shot. See the y-pipe has a smaller exhaust pipe rapped in the larger one. The smaller pipe inside rusted out.

That was my ratteling problem...not really sure what urs is.

If u have the same problem as me, you need to get a new y-pipe (dont get a new one cause they are $625.00, they include the cat) See if someone that put on headers has a loose one laying around, thats what i did.

If its your cat, just buy a new one and have it put on (bout $80).

Oh and 9 times out of 10 its EITHER going to be the converter or the y-pipe, not both.

Well I just had the exhaust installed about two weeks ago. The y-pipe was custom made.

Do a search for "cat rattle" in the Gen Tech section.

In the last week, my Firebird (27K mile daily driver) has gradually developed a rattle when accelerating from 0. This noise gradually progressed to rattling at parking lot speeds and when power braking. I'm taking it to the dealer next week.

I've not noticed any power loss, plus relatively low mileage means interior breakdown of the cat is unlikey; it is most likely a loose heat shield.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

well the thing is that I had my car up on ramps and I pulled down on the cat converter and the sound went away. I then felt around it and didn't feel any touching. I am going to call up the exhaust shop that installed it too bad they are not open till monday.
