  • Stock Exhaust....Or Is It?

I need to know if my exhaust is stock i do believe it is but its sounds dang good and im just wondering. I have the 1996 Y87. So im guessing it is but is there a sure fire way of telling it is?

    Thanks

it's stock. the y87 came with dual out mufflers and sounds better than those with single, like mine had :(

Get under the car look at the muffler. If it is an aftermarket performance muffler it should have the name of it on there somewere. Also check for welds or places it looks the exhaust could have been cut on. But the stock exhaust on a Y87 is relatively quite so if it has any type of rumble at all to it you can bet it is aftermarket :D

I don't know, mine is pretty loud. Everyone thats gone for a drive has noticed it. My cousin was quite impressed with how good it sounds :D

However I'm not sure mine is stock either, so I checked it out. There are only some numbers on the muffler, but the tips terminate right before bumber and point down. Don't most aftermarket muffers point strait back?

Is this similar to yours Fusion

I would say it is stock. Y87 cars had dual outs that pointed down. Also, has anyone else noticd that stock 98+ V6s are quieter then 93-97s?

Would anyone be willing to take a pic of the stock Y87 Exhaust. Also did the 96 come with dual without being a Y87? Thanks for all the replys keep 'em coming.

I have a 96 non y87 and mine is a single outlet, as far as I know they were all like that if they were non y87.
                  hope this helps

Bass, I'm 30 minutes north from you in Chelmsford, but I think its a stock exhaust. The hangers are horribly rusted and look like they have never been disturbed. What I should really do is contact the lady that owned the car before me. However if you want to take a look that would be cool :D

The I-pipe is the same on Y87 and non-Y87 cars. The Y87 muffler is louder than the base model, I know I had it. The Y87 muffler is identical in looks to the base muffler, with the addition of a second tailpipe on the passenger side. The tailpipe tips point down on both versions.
