  • Is it a bad idea to cut my exhaust off before the catalytic converter?

my cat is busted... it rattles and the engine is all boggged down... new one is coming tomorrow, but I'm bored and cutting off the exhaust seems amusing. Could I damage anything? Or is the only problem cops here in CA?

performance loss? probably just a little
but its ok, your stock headers are a little restrictive

you will be fine, but i see that you live in cali, so i would be careful, i know that cops there are a b!tch. so if they see no cat they will know that 02 sensors are missing and omg is that a big fine!

Funny, I just cut mine off right infront of the cat a couple of days ago. Unbeleivable how loud it is.

I had no choice as the exhaust was a POS when I bought the car and the hangers broke and the muffler was dragging on the ground alot. Since it was no were near stock I could not get it replaced for under $300, so I finally had to chop it off.

I have a used 80 series Flowmaster coming in any day and then I will get down to my friends muffler shop to get a new hi-flow cat and new tubing from there all the way back and put it pretty much back to stock.

But damn it is loud, I actually hate driving it right now.

I drove my car 20 miles OPEN STOCK MANIFOLDS. God damn was that loud; I didn't let it go over 2krpms and it was still deafening. Not to mention the whole car was vibrating. It was when I was doing my headers in case you were wondering. Actually drove beside a cop about half of the way and didn't get pulled over. When I got to my friends' house where we finished the install he heard me pull up and was like YESSSSS!
