  • Engine ticking

Since i put headers on my car, the engine ticks a bit, when it idles, and cruises at low rpms. when i accelerate, you cannot hear it (maybe because of the engine noise) but its annoying the piss out of me and making me think my car is junk. i am trying to check for leaks when i have time off, but i'm wondering if its valves, even though i never had problems with them b4. on hot days the car doesn't seem to tick as much if that helps.

Def. sounds like an exhaust leak. Couldn't tell you for sure w/o hearing it, but the fact that it started right after you installed headers is a pretty sure sign.

Have someone else sit in the car and hold it at 1500 rpm or so (where ever the tick is most noticable) and then go over the exhaust looking and listening for it.

    Good Luck!

is doesnt make a noise when it hot because it seals...i had a cracked manifold on my 87 firebird and when i ran it for awhile the crack sealed up...but once i let it sit it came back

just finished getting my headers on and Ive got the same problem, except it doesnt sound too bad at idle, or even when you rev it in neutral... its when its under load it ticks like a lawnmower engine. I cant seem to find it.... was going to try seafoam to help locate it.

doesnt it bubble/smoke out of the leaks when you run it through? could be wrong, ive never used the stuff, but I thought Ive heard of it being done before.

enjoy the noise that drove me mad. Never did fix my exhaust leak after installing the headers....but check either your EGR or your gaskets thats all i can say

ive got a 3-ply metal gasket on there now. should I take them off and put them back on w/ a bunch of ultra copper or something like that?

i think mine is at the y collector pipe on the drivers side. it never fit right, and i think i'm going to have it welded, or new one rebuild if that is where the leak is coming from!
