  • performance gains from the 3800 Perf. Pkg.?

i think my car has the 3800 Performance Package...it has 4-wheel disc brakes, a dual exhaust, 16" tires, etc. my question is, does the package actually add any horsepower to the mix, or is it just for show? i know the only real horsepower would come from the dual exhaust, but is it a real, free-flowing one or just a show piece?

In 1998 they started putting 4 wheel disk brakes on all V6's and 16" wheels are standard. As for your question I believe the Y87 package is just 3.42 gears and limited slip differential.

    EDIT: http://tech.firebirdv6.com/y87.html

I thought 3.42 gears were included? But they are not listed.

3.42's are part of Y87 as well as LSD...which don't give you more horsepower but let you take off a lot harder than a firebird/camaro with 3.08's and no LSD
Also you have a better steering rack and possibly better suspension...don't know about that one though.

Edit-If you have a manual you still have 3.23s...but you get LSD with it.

Look inside your door and/or in your glovebox for the 3 digit code Y87. Here are some other codes you may like to look for. http://tech.firebirdv6.com/generalspecs.html

thanks...i'll have to check my glovebox, since the doors have no stickers or anything on them.
