• wondering about LT1/LS1 MAF sensor

Has anyone tried an LT1/LS1 (stock or otherwise) MAF sensor on our cars?

How far off is it? In which direction, lean or rich?

I had to put a '99 v6 sensor in my tb after I ported it, and it's still not quite right...

Also with the bigger injectors, I run rich at idle and sometimes at part-throttle, with a little surge (which indicates the a/f is hunting).

If the LT1/LS1 sensor is mostly accurate, but a little on the lean side, that would be perfect.

I'm currently running a maft at max lean (12%) on the WOT setting, which is ok for drag racing, but it doesn't help at all for around town. And I can't get good results from running it lean on the Base setting, it throws everything off.

I could always tweak the LS1 sensor into range with the maft, if it's not too far off.

And get rid of the maf screen once and for all as a side benefit...

Plus I think I could partially "hacksaw straighten" my angle tb, if the integral maf sensor wasn't needed... :D

Things to think about. But it all hinges on the suitability of an LT1/LS1 type maf sensor upstream of the tb.

edit - expanded to include LT1 sensors...

The LS1 sensor is pretty lean. I would think you would have a harder time tuning the LS1 sensor rather than the v6 one. I know for a fact that the slopes are different on the two sensor. At idle, I don't think they are that far off, my car idled ok with one. But at WOT it gets really lean.

ZZP has a mini-afc that is calibrated for the LS1 sensor slope and might be what you need. Or you could use a regular mini-afc and MAFT+ together.

That's good feedback. Some of my interim searching a few minutes ago pointed me to some of the notes over in the diy forum too...

I hadn't really thought about an LT1 sensor before, but I'm thinking that would be even better.

I am trying to clean up the airflow around the sensor, and with the '98 angled down tb, going up to a center mounted lid, it's kinda ugly under there... So something that would help me straighten things out, and that read in a larger cross section of the tubing would be nice.
