I've been looking around and realized that what i previously thought about my exhaust being 2.5" all the way from the manifold was incorrect. The pacesetter headers have 2.25" collector and the flowmaster american thunder catback has a 2.25" I-pipe. does this mean that the stock cat is 2.25" as well?

Wow, I thought I thought the American Thunder system was 2.5". According to these sites:
http://www.splmeter.com/94camaro.html
and
http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tech/0305phr_v6/
the system should be 2.5"
Where did you see it was 2.25"?
My rksports headers came with a 2.5" collector.
