  • resistors with IAT

Hello everybody. I ran a search and found some info about putting a resistor in series with the IAT, but now have some questions about it. I know it advances your timing since it thinks the air temperature is colder, but does it lean or richen the mixture?

A second question is just a subsidary one. I read a test and found that adding around 10K Ohms of resistance advances timing about 5*. Is this enough to have to use premium gas? Stock computers are programmed for regular, so i wouldnt want to trick the computer with too many things before I program it right.

if you searched like you said, then you should realise that 3.8's tend to not see any gains with it, where as the 3.4's do. FYI

as for your question, I don't know the answer lol

I know. did mine myself, but I think im taking it out for these two reasons.

        1. It advances timing and since the intake air is warmer than the car thinks, you are risking detonation.

        2. It richens the mixture, and will have negative effects with the warm air that is coming in.

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...
