not too long ago, a friend and i made a custom cold air intake (link at bottom) and a few topics arose about the fact that i'm not getting as much power as an SLP intake system would get me because i am not getting the "cold air" that the slp intake does. well, if you refer to modification reviews on the http://www.firebirdv6.com website, you'll see that "cold air" refers to the piping and i'm guessing the temperatures at which this piping reaches. anyway, after we built this intake, we noticed that the pipe was REALLY HOT and it was obvious why: the filter was bringing in hot air, the 180 thermo wasn't keeping the engine THAT cool, and the 100 degree weather in texas sucks. so, not thinking along the lines of the intake, we installed a fan switch so that i could keep my engine cooler in heavy traffic or at the tracks (even though i've not even been once--it's wishful thinking). anyway, after installing the custom switch ($15 instead of slp's whopping $75, and MINE HAS LIGHTS TO SHOW YOU WHICH SPEED THE FAN IS ON as opposed to slp's switch with no lights whatsoever) we noticed that even after running the car at WOT and normally for one hour, even though my engine reached about the same temp as it did without the fan, the intake is very cool. before i could never hold my hand on the piping for more than 5 secs.; now i can put my penis on it and not have any worries. and i noticed a power difference. sweet! go for the two if you want to save some money...look at it like this:

SLP's performance package like mine:
$220 plus shipping + $70 plus shipping = $290 plus shipping

my performance package like mine:
$70 plus shipping + $15 plus shipping = $85 plus shipping; only there is no shipping with mine :D

just trying to help some of ya'll out, not trying to earn bragging rights or anything; if you don't want my input, just tell me and i'll shut my trap

Yea but what is the differnce anyway. By the time the air reaches the engine it is already hot.so there is really no point to cold air. It doesnt really make that much differnce, i tested both out, there about the same.

heh, ya, my whole theory behind cold air/hot air is on my custom intake webpage and i basically say it doesn't matter; but a lot of people contradict me and i think it is actually better going in cooler...don't know for sure though...i know the fan makes a diff for sure on the coolness though...wouldn't want my custom intake to melt through the radiator hose...lol, like anything could melt through a radiator hose...
