  • Stock cat 3" modification?

Since the adapter on the stock cat to squish down to 2.25 is a small ways down the pipe, is it possible to cut off the piping short and weld onto the cat where its still 3" on the outlet and just use it like that? Is this a bad idea?

Dominic I would think you could weld a 3 inch pipe, or muffler, glass pack, etc right too it.

Mine is welded on so you would have to cut it then re-weld again if I did it.

I would think you could even weld in a 02 bung so you wouldn't need an o2 sim if you want to get rid of the cat all together.

I thought about this too, only welding a glass pack then putting a turn down on the end. Will save some weight without all the piping and a muffer in the rear.

No, what I mean is instead of buying a 3" cat, since our cat is 3" inlet, is it possible to make it 3" outlet and save the $ on buying a 3" cat?

Oh, yeah that would be possible too. Just need a good muffler shop that can weld really good. ;)
