  • post 2k exhaust manifolds work on pre 2k?

wondering if this can be done? i have a 97 maro and found some exhaust manifolds off a friend's 2000 maro and wondering if i can get them and put them on easily? and then i'm wondering if i can hook them up to the y-pipe i have now? any comments or suggestions? thx guys...

btw, they do say about a 5 hp difference in pre 2k manifolds and the tubular manifolds of post 2k, right?

Yes, they will bolt up and yes, I would spend the $100 on em if I were in your shoes.

I'd like to know as well. I'd be interested in changing out to the tubular manifolds if I could find them.

The price I'm finding is around $100...don't know if it makes a difference but it looks like the description is. Also exactly how hard would this be to install.

They should fit as a direct replacement. I researched it and that's what the general opinion was. I got mine for $100 shipped from Cale.

That's what started me on redoing my exhaust - tubular manifolds hoping to solve my plug/wire woes. I am going to swap manifolds and put in 3" piping all the way back.

I had a pair of tubular manifolds and after staring at the manifolds and spending a lot of time under my car looking at the y-pipe, I've come to the conclusion that they will not just bolt up to the y-pipe. The tubular manifolds extend down more than the old style. All you have to do is cut down the y-pipe, weld on a new collector (think that's what its called?), and then it will bolt right up. They do bolt right up to the engine.

I sold mine with the heat sheilds and new gaskets for $110 shipped. And, no, they are not rated with 5 more HP.

So far we're thinking the manifolds fit, but the y-pipe will take some work. No more hp, but you can change your plugs easier.

I think, personally, that maybe the newer manifolds flow slightly better. They sure look better.

Yeah, the y-pipe will take some work. The y-pipe needs to be shortened. Its not all that hard, but I was looking for a direct bolt-on when I bought the manifolds. I personally think they flow better, thats one of the reasons I bought them in the first place.

                              HEY!!

I had to put pre '00 manifolds on my '02 since when I traded it in. (my manifolds were in Doc Squirts hands after I took my headers off).

Everything bolted fine. The manifolds are pieces of **** compared to 00+ ones, but they worked fine.

Hope this clears up some stuff.
