• Alright, Cut-Out Review...

Well just had my cutout installed today during work. Here is what i have found out about it (it was also mounted right before the muffler)....

Cons:
1. Low RPM's, off the line, low end SUX! i lost ALLL backpressure i had left in my car and its a dog now w/ the cutout uncapped.
2. The interior resonence is unbarrable, too damn loud inside the car at about 2k rpm's! everything shakes inside.
3. Exhaust pops at time if nailed.
4. Sounds like a fart pipe at higher rpm's when u nail it (my sweat spot is around 27mph, and it sounds like @$$ now when i nail it).
5. Thats all i can think of right now, i've only had it on for a few hrs

Pros:
1. Exhaust DOES sound sweet as hell driving in the city UNDER 3k rpm's, sounds REALLY GOOD!
2. Draws people's attention.
3. I like that pop noise it makes at times, sounds mean as hell.
4. Sounds AWSOME when you rev it when your parked or in neutral (not like w/ the flowmaster where it sounds like rice if its in park and you rev it)
5. Cant beat the price, w/ install ran me about $70.

So my overall opinion: If you dont do a lot of highway/fast driving (over 45mph) go for it, cant beat the sound for city driving. I have not taken it on the highway yet so i cant really say much on that subject. Also its a cheap mod, you dont like it, cap it and its all good. I would probably see a HUGE difference in power if i was running a power adder (nitrous/supercharger/turbo) but im not so i cant say much there, just that it ROBBED my low end power BIG TIME! This is just an intimidation factor, you wanna scare a few cars around you, get it, mostly u just get a lot of attention due to it.

So to each is his own, you really do not have much to lose w/ it.

I do not have to take it to the track to notice the HUGE power loss. So if your not runnin 3.23+gear, do not get it. It seriously KILLED me off the line.

Well just my thoughts.

I've now decided against getting a cutout from what a few people said. They say it drains low end and hurts cars overall performance, also they say it is JUST TO make the car loud. Which is cool and all and for $70 thats not bad. Just don't think i really care to have it that loud and lose that much performance.

There are many (such as myself) who have cut time off their 1/4 mile with a cut-out too though. Yes, it's loud at points, what exhaust system isn't. I don't really like this review, here's why. No flames intended.

You say the resonance (sp?) is terrible at 2k RPM's, well yea, EVERY car has them. Every piece of metal and glass you see on the ground has a resonance frequency, and they will all shake and rattle at that frequency. What can you do, not much besides hunt down the source and try to kill it.

You also said it sounds "AWSOME" when you rev it just parked or idling. Well, everyone I've ever talked to think that is when the cut outs sound like crap. You rev too high without going anywhere, and it gets ricey fast! Not under loads at WOT, it is just loud, not something to listen to all day, but impressive. Just seems this is one review that is kind of strange. If you are curious about whether or not you want one and can afford it, get it. If you don't like it, and most people will, cover it and never hear it again.

Alright to clear up a few things.

The cutout sounds DIFFERENT when its parked then while its driving. It sounds pretty damn good when its in park and you rev it, sometimes u get a little backfire and it pops, sounds pretty damn mean. BUT when your driving and you WOT it, it sound like cr@p. I dont know the physics behind it, but has to do w/ the good ol speed vs. sound theory. Also probably has to do w/ the backpressure factor.

SO it SOUNDS good parked and you rev it, but on the other hand, sounds bad when your driving and then floor it, i cant explaine it, just my thoughts.

And i can see a DRAMATIC loss in power. I think the reason behind the huge loss in power is due to the fact that i have practially no mods, all i have is intake/exhaust and a cat, nothing else. Stock plugs, stock wires, hell stock EVERYTHING! I believe you wouldnt see as much of a loss if you had a power adder or a modded car as i stated before.

So if all your looking for is your car to be extremely loud and get people's attention, go for it.

And for the 2k resonence, i should have maybe said "pitch". Yes every exhaust has their own pitch/tone, and w/ the flows, at 2k the exhaust sounded SWEET, nice and deep, but w/ the cutout, its REALLY deap, STOCK LS1 type sound. That just my opinion. I would love to post sound clips but i have no idea how to record and post sorry guys.

But for $70, its something you can try out yourself, if you like it you like it, if not your out $70, not really that big of a deal. ANd yes you can always cap it like nothing ever happened so thats the good thing.

My car doesn't feel like it's lost any low-end with my cutout. Hell, it feels stronger with it opened. I can normally be cruising below 10mph and slam the pedal down and get some tire spin. All through the RPM band it pulls harder then it used to. Personally, I like the loud sound. If you don't like noise, then don't get a cutout.

I had my cut-out installed 2 weeks ago and I asked to have it installed after the cat, because of noise and resonance and the guy told me "whats the point then, your trying to go faster at the track right?" I agreed. Theres no way I can drive around town with it off b/c im affriad i'll get pulled over its so loud and obnoxious, but it should help in the 1/4.

Actually, to see how big a loss or gain I had w/my cutout installed along w/my Dynomax 3" cat-back on my '94 Camaro, I went to the track on 2 occasions, both times to see how the car ran both w/the cutout open & closed. I ran my best times w/the cutout open, usually .10 faster e/t & 1-2mph faster.

Well i guess it all depends on the car. my car feels a lot slower, thats just my opinion. Seems as though everyone who has said it improved their performance had a lot more mods then i do and have a taller gear then i do.

Who know's, all i know is i FEEL a power loss, i wont know for sure unless i go to the track.

Get one and try it out for urselves :D

i would think that with 3.42+ gears and with intake mods the cutout will help your performance otherwise without any mods youll get hurt

at the track, et might be improved, but i wonder if 60' will go down. when i cap up my cutout on the TA it feels torquier. when i had my V6 and opened the borla all the way it felt slower off the line, but pulled harder everywhere else. so the car prolly does feels slower off the line, but the extra flow is made up at higher speeds.

resonance sucks. i dont have cats and its horrible around 2K rpms. but at WOT with it uncapped :D

you should stop by so i can hear it danny.

my car feels MUCH stronger w/the cut-out! it did kill bottom end, when im driving in the city it kinda sucks not having it, but you get used to it after a little while, mine wasnt REAL loud at first, but i just had one of my buddies make me a bigger, nicer looking cut-out and its louder but still worth the total $32.?? i spent on it! BUT...i only have a 2.5" exhaust so thats probably why my car picked up so much...
