  • Cutout is phat!

Except for where it was mounted, but oh well. They took off my cat and put the cutout there, replacing it with a straightpipe. It is loud as ALL HELL and sounds good too. I haven't put it on WOT yet because i was still digesting how loud it was and was kinda nervous about police around me. If you get one i would recommend it being mounted right before the rear axle, so that it won't vibrate your interior so much. I'm going to tweak some things though...... ;) May have it re located in a bit.

i just got my 2.5 cutout and haven't gotten it welded yet. you said put it before the rear axle. aside from vibrating the interior, is there any specific place to put the cutout for maximum performance and\or best sound?

i've heard that it is better to put it right after the cat.

The best place would be on the I-pipe between the cat & the muffler, where it's also easy to reach.

Okay, here's what i've gathered from the night:

            1. It feels a helluva lot slower with it uncapped.
            2. It does sound like a weed wacker when you nail it. Mine for some reason is also really tinny, like a bumble bee, because it's pretty loose (the whole I pipe).
You shouldn't put it before the cat. I think that i'm going to end up putting on a highflow cat and have the cutout moved back right before the axle so it won't shake and rattle my car when i drive. Man i have such a headache right now. It's THAT loud.
I don't have the headers yet, STILL, because i think this cockface is ripping me off. See the FS forum on the z28.com board for more details. I post under slvrbird2000 over there. So, here goes another 60 bucks for a catco, lol. Oh well!

Damn sure does sound awesome though down low. Just like my buddies LS1 with straightpipe/cutout when we both fired ours up. Until we revved, then he won lol. Hopefully i'll find a way to fix that. I am thinking the headers and catco will improve it alot, along with adding a bit of backpressure.
That is if i ever get the GD headers!

One other thing: Make SURE to have the cutout pointed downwards, not to the side. I think that is a big reason also why mine rattles so ungodly-like. The exhaust is pushed straight onto the car's body, so it's gotta have a pretty significant effect. Maybe i can take it back tomorrow and have them fix it up. I'm thinking that will help at least with the rattling.

when you get it pointed downward, let us, or at least me, know if it stops or decreases the rattling any

I am taking it back on thursday, along with my manager and his truck lol. Of all people. I am just going to have it relocated to right before the rear axle, because it will cost the same either way. I am also gonna try to find a resonator to have put where the cat was, if i can get one for cheap. Maybe a bullet muffler or something. I'll keep you all updated.
