• 96 to 98+ air box conv?

Is it possible to replace my 96 airbox setup with the 98+ setup? Or would I just be better off getting a cai and forgetting about it. My initial idea with the 98+ airbox was to make a functional ram-air setup with a Z-style hood from suncoast creations.

I'm not sure about that. I haven't run across any airbox setups for the 96 Camaro V6 that are similar to the 98 Camaro V6. I just got an SLP CAI from www.thunderracing.com and it's wonderful I'd just get the CAI. :D

I doubt it's even possible, without converting your entire front-end to the 98+ style. When GM designed the 98+ front end, they made it bigger to accomodate the LS1's larger size, and in doing that, they had the extra hood clearance to put in the airbox. On 97- models, there's not enough hood clearance for the airbox.

I'm sure that if you wanted to to major work to your car, you could convert it to an airbox, but it wouldn't be worth it.

The 98+ airbox sits in a very similar location to the 93-97 WS6 Pontiac's. The aftermarket Camaro ram air hoods also put the airbox close to there. There would be the issue of whether you can draw air from below like the 98+ airboxes do, or if you would have to pull it through the hood. I am pretty sure an aftermarket hood would be necessary either way.

If you look at hpsalvage.com, in their project car section, there is a 94 camaro with a ram air hood and airbox just to give you a picture of what I am talking about.

What about the Z-Style Airbox Kit from suncoast. It says it will work with your car. It looks like a step up from the 98 airbox anyway.
