  • Found oil in TB

Hi guys, i was changing my coolant today when I decided to take off my intake and give a pear into my throttle body and put the MAF back in. I noticed a little bit of oil in the front where that vertical peice goes. Whats the deal? What does this mean or could be happening? I hope it's nothing serious. Thanks for any help.

Mods, I know this belongs in the intake forum but usually when i ask a question like this it gets moved into there and gets lost in all the muffler and cold air induction questions. Please leave this in here at least until I get a reasonable answer. Thank You

Do you have a K&N or Holley filter?

After I put a K&N in mine, I had a little oil around the maf screen area.

On my cold air induction I have one of them apc intimidator cone filters. Haven't had a problem with it since I had it, i had it on there for a good few months now.

I had a fuel system flush done on my 96 Firebird before I put it up for sale. There was some "oil" looking stuff in my TB as well. I don't really think it's oil though, just deposits.

Dang Ted, sounds like it is coming from your PCV valve. Give me a call when you get a chance so we can check that thing out.

Throttle Body's do get biuld up and deposits in them. No big deal unless it was alot of oil.

Just take it off, spray it with some carb cleaner and see how it does. if it comes back within a few days you know you have a problem.

I know when I took my stock TB off it was black on the inside.

Yea i know you get carbon up in there and it gets dirty as hell but thats not the case i cleaned it out not too long ago so it's clean as a whistle, i can see a reflection of my self in it, it's that clean. However, there was oil running down it when i peared in there, i took my finger and could actually get it out. I know thats not supposed to be normal.
