  • Good Old Header/Manifold Bolts!

Well my headers were suppose to go on today.... Suppose to...

I get a call in the middle of the day from the shop and he tells me one of the manifold bolts is snapped off. Well great. He doesnt want to put the headers on because he's afraid it will leak so he just puts the other back manifold back on. He didnt even want to mess with drilling and tapping the old bolt and suggested another shop. I go up there and they quote somewhere around $250.... Just to get the bolt out. I called the dealership and at the discount I get it was like $300.

I'm extremely mad and dont really want to have anything to do with it myself. I still cant beleive it... Its gonna cost about $800 total for a set of F-EN headers all in all.

Will my header leak with that one bolt gone? My manifolds do not leak now.

I figure if the heads and intake are coming off I might as well get them P&P'ed if I cant get this done cheaper. This really ticks me off, it has to happen to me. :( I've already had enough problems with this car, 01 with 48k miles. Got it at 38k.

so what your trying to say is that a bolt that was holding your stock manifolds on snapped in half.. and the threaded part is still inside the head?

My main question is... did that first shop snap the bolt, and they don't want anything to do with fixing their mistake? Thats kinda pathetic if so.

No I dont think they broke it, he showed it to me and it was rusted over on the part that was broken.

Me and my freind are thinking of doing it but one of my freinds at Vo-tec might be able to take it in or borrow the tools so we can get it done.

Ya the threaded spot is still in the head and there isnt enough to get vice grips or anything on them.

you might be able to back it out with a drill if you use a penitrating oil on the bolt and let it set it. if you dont have that, get WD40.

When I installed my headers, I noticed one of the original Studs appeared to be missing.

Due to the angle of the heads, it's not possible to see if it's snapped off or come out, but when I was bolting up the headers, I tried putting a bolt in there and basically 'couldn't find the hole' leading me to conclude that the original had snapped.

Not noticed any leaks from the headers so far...
