Depends depends, if you've never touched a welder I wouldn't count on being the best man for the job. On a similar note, having a lift, tubing cutter / bender, and a welder makes all the difference in installing exhaust. I helped Tyson at Performance Auto Fabrication here in Maryland (Glen Burnie) put on my loudmouth (helped as in stood there and kinda held things), and there was no way in hell I coulda put it on on jackstands, since stuff had to bewelded, fit, cut, etc. If you KNOW for SURE that your system will bolt up and slip on, you might be OK, but otherwise, take it to a performance shop and have them help you out.

But hey, if you do want a welder: it's not just the welder, but also the wire that helps weld. Tyson MIG'd stuff up with some sorta special welder, but Shane is TIG'ing his manifolds. Someone else might be using gas or a plasma cutter, and you might get by a small repair with just a little buzzbox arc /stick. All up to you!

    Good luck dude,

the thing is.. my neighbor has a welder... forgot which kind.

what i want to do is put on my EGR block off plate, and weld it there so there will DEFINATELY BE no leak..

and also i want to make my own CAI out of some pipes. and also weld this damn washer that is loose on my exaust.. its a washer on the hanger of my exhaust.. and i cant tighten the bolt, cause its welded also..

For simple exhaust pipe welding, you can get by with an oxy/acetylene torch, brazing tip and coat hanger.

For the EGR plate I'm not sure if welding is the best option.

If you do go to use any type of welder on your car, other than the torch, disconnect your battery first. Bad things can happen if not.

Oxy/Acetlyene is okay for simple exhaust work, but most exhaust shops I've seen also have plasma cutters, which are quite expensive. Also, if you have never welded and you don't have anyone to teach you, you should probably just forget it.
