• 3" Catco and I-pipe installed

I have had a dynomax muffler for a few months now and decided to go ahead and add a 3" catco converter and 3" I-pipe. I am not pleased with the results at all. I feel little to no difference in power and it sounds like crap. It sounds kinda like someone trying to make a blowing fart noise at idle, but it does sound a little better above 2,000 rpms. I was pleased with just the muffler. It wasn't loud, but it did have a little bit more of a rumble over stock. Maybe a different system would sound better(flowmaster), but 3" pipes and cat with dynomax sounds like poo IMO. :(

I think in the near future I will just put the stock cat back on. I don't have the money right now to try out exhaust systems. Oh well, I am just really fustrated.

Get rid of the dynomax and get a flowmaster on there. You will thank me later, trust me. :D ;)

Actually, I thought the dynomax system I had sounded pretty good with the 3" cat and I pipe, but the flowmaster sounds better and deeper.

Why? I have a dynomax with a carsound cat, and my exhaust sounds great.

Well, I have been driving it some and the sound has changed. It sounds quite a bit different after about 100 miles than when it was first installed. I'll keep it this way for a week or so before jumping the gun to see how it does.

How long have you had the cat on? After you put about 1k miles or so, it will sound MUCH different. I was cringing when I installed my HF cat, my car sounded worse than a friggen Honda. But after a few weeks it sounded less 'tiny' is the best I can describe it.

I just had it installed yesterday and I have about 100 miles on it. I hope it does change because after leaving the shop I could only think about how cheap it sounded. BTW, I am getting a strange sound. The best way I can describe it is that is sounds similar to plastic blowing in the back of a truck. It's usually worse when the car is cool. Is this something that would change with time?

I use to have just a dynomax muffler, and wanted something a little bit louder and noticeable. SO I put a catco cat on. I didn't like how it sounded either. It made it sound cheap. After the whole getup was trashed. I just replaced it with an LT1 AT Flowmaster System, carsound cat and all. Now it sounds much better.

Try the Flowmaster and gutted cat. What a sound!!!

Or maybe a Dynomax race muffler (straight through).

But whatever, get what sounds you like. Someone told me that a gutted cat and Flows are crappy, but it sounds OK to me.

wouldn't the gutted cat rattle like crazy? Or make a weird swooshing sound w/o having a straight pipe there?

I had my Flowmaster 80 series on for a couple of months and I just installed a catco and 3" piping all the way back. I am pleased with the sound very deep and robust not an 8 but definately louder and deeper than with the stock pipes and an 80 series muffler on.
And absolutely NO RICE even when reving in park.
Pics and part numbers on web page. Hope that helps you. Also I was unimpressed with the sound when I first got my flow installed but I was only hearing it inside the car, then I had it dynoed so I could hear it WOT and it sounded pretty good. So really what Im saying is their is a difference inside and out so dont be disappointed by just what you hear inside.
