  • V8 Borla to fit V6?

    I'm about to get a V8 version of Borla's catback system because I can get it for under $500 (pretty good eh?) But the question is will it fit my 2002 V6? I asked Borla themselves and they said the only difference between the two is the pipe from the catalytic conv. back to the muffler. The guy said it could be shorter/longer and would need some slight modifications to fit the V6. Is that true? Does anyone have experience with this? I'm also planning on getting the Catco 3" in/out for an even deeper sound and higher flow. Thanks

    I have the 98-02 v8 borla catback on my 97 rs. The guy who put it on said it was fairly easy, and he had to modify just slightly to make it fit. I think he did say he added a small length of pipe near the cat, maybe a reducer or something. I have a catco cat aswell, and running the exhaust straight open. I've heard that you may have to modify the hangers as well, but not sure.

      I put one on my '98. At the same time I did a catco, a set of CIA headers, and two 45 degree stainless steel 3" sections to replace the s-pipe.

      I had to cut the borla down some, and the 45's too, to get everything to fit. (better to have it be too long than too short starting out...)

      I think with my headers and the new cat, the cat stopped a little short of the stock location.

      Just going by memory, from back in the spring, I don't know if the borla would have reached the cat, if I hadn't also gotten the 45's to replace the s-pipe at the same time. I don't think it would have reached, or lined up, with the cat. Seems like it was made to hook up to the existing s-pipe. You may want to doublecheck on that.

        I have the opertunity to get a V8 Borla for my car, I didn't think it would fit, but if it does. How would it sound? I have flowmasters on there now.

          With the fully open plate, it sounded awesome at idle. It was loud on the highway. Kicked butt going through a tunnel or next to a wall.

          With the partially closed plate, it was ricey at high rpms, passing, etc. It was loud on the highway too, in an annoying way.

          With the fully closed plate it is quieter at idle, still sounds good when you get on it, and is not so loud on the highway.

            I don't know why but my car sounds ricey when I let my mom take my car to the grocery store. This is with the full plate. It does sound really good inside the car at all rpms. When i had the open plate it had a weird noise like an hollow noise but it sounded good, and it was loud. The borla sounds the best to me when you hear the echo of it off buildings, tunnels, and other cars.

              how loud are we talking, i was thinking of borla, but i don't want it to sound like a honda or my neighbors "muddin" truck...

                That's the good thing about the different block off plates. With it fully closed, it sounds louder than stock, but not obnoxious. If you want to make some racket, it's a five minute or less job to swap block-off plates, then swap back later.

                    I've heard there is just a muffler and tailpipes kit that is not adjustable. If it is the whole cat-back system then it should be adjustable. May want to doublecheck what they are selling you for sure.

                      They do sell a rear section exhaust but with the 3" cat-back you can adjust the sound with plates. It doesn't take me 5 min to swap plate too, its more like 30 minutes lol. Its not that loud, people change the plates to try and get a different sound. I have the closed plate on mine now and after it broke it its just about as loud as it was without a plate...

                        I think you either really like the unique sound borla make, or you don't. I am not a big fan, but sound is not the only thing to consider. borla is a very high quality exhaust system and if you can get it at a reasonable price its worth getting it.
