I've got 3" from the Y pipe back and I get off the line fine if I can get traction. It really opens up the top end when teamed up with a ram air kit. I've got stock tubular manifolds, 3" pipe in place of cat, 3" S pipe, 3" American Thunder cat back.
If I had it to do over again I would have left the cat and put an exhaust dump on remote just before the cat to really open up the top end. It sounded so nice before I took off the cat, not it sounds really nice below 3,000 but not so great above but the gain was great. I might have tried to just chop off the end of the stock cat and mate it to a 3" pipe. Only thing that could hurt is while welding it could melt some of the filter crap.1997 Nassau Blue Vette
1989 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 (lifted with 31\" tires)
2000 V6 Camaro, loud, cammed 210rwhp *SOLD*

i ended up getting a 98 + I pipe and it turned out it was missing the S. so i call hpsalvage and he says the older Zs include the S as one piece. i go back to hpsalvage and he gives me another pipe and it includes the S as one piece. how cool is that? he said it was off a 93 or 94. it should get put on sometime next week.6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

ok the setup is done and i dont think i can do anything else with air going into or out of the motor. it sounds really really good. the other day i was at a stoplight in my truck (cause of my broken valve guide in my car) and i heard a mustang GT drive off. i realized it sounded good as it was driving away, but i heard nothing when we where just sitting there.
my car sounds good just sitting there, idling its own business, and sounds even better as it drives off. all in all i am very happy with how it sounds.6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

I have 3" Catco Cat, 2.5" piping, and 2x2.5" after the muffler. I truly am glad I didn't go to 3". I will be running NA for a while. I felt just a little tiny low-end loss, and I gained a good amount top end. Where I really gained was in the 55mph-65mph area. Now, when I pass cars, it jumps a lot more than it used to. I like the 2.5" - 2.75" pipes.
