  • shorty vs longtube headers

Just ordered some edelbrock shorty headers for 369.99 for my ss. Got shorties because I couldn't find anything for sure about which is better except that long tubes may have a super small difference in 6-7 k rpm range. I wanted my setup to be more practical... ie no clearance issues...easier to change plugs... etc. Based off your experience which do you guys find to be a better buy. Shorties seem to have more low end power.

I meant to give a link to back up what I was talking about. All you gave was a vague statement. Explain This.http://www.sandersonheaders.com/Lets-Get-Technical.html

I wouldn't put anything other than longtubes on an LS1, but that's just me. I have OBX Headers on mine.

          Re: shorty vs longtube headers

Everything I read said the exact opposite of what you said. I have long tubes on mine and I believe most guys go with long tubes. If you're not looking for every drop of HP, then the difference is negligible.

Yeah, you will probably have better clearance with shorties. That said, my ground clearance is fine and I have duals. If you go with the standard Y, then it should be even better. I'm actually looking to lower my car since I need new shocks.

I know it's a bad picture, but here's my clearance with longtubes and true duals. They are tucked up really well... Since it's hard to tell, the can fits under the piping with space, but the muffler comes about 1/4" below the top of the can.

Ok started install late last night. Actually started at like 930... after driving to the auto parts store and deciding I was also gonna tune her up. Msd 8.5 mm red wires and ngk iridium plugs. I got them both for about 150. Gonna try to do more work tonight on her!!!
