Is it important to keep the plastic deflector and cut it to size or can I just chuck it. The plastic in front of the AC coil

the plastic piece that comes down under the car? you need it to direct air into the rad to keep the car cool...unless you like overheating.

Yeah, your going to need to keep that. Why would you even want to cut it?

It tells you to cut it to fit the ram air piece

grab a picture...not sure I know what your talking about...that piece that droops down under the car directs air up to the radiator...not sure why you would need to cut that? The SLP and the K&N go down into that enclosed area just behind the driver side lights...unless you mean cut the plastic piece that is right below that? but I didnt and I had a K&N, protects the filter a little more from road grime, you should still get plenty of air down there...

is this on a lid style car? If so and you are installing the scoop, then yes you cut the airbox under the filter to slip the scoop through to get cool air from in front of the radiator.

You will not be touching the air deflector under the car for this mod

I thought you were talking about the air deflector under the car, my Bad, the plastic piece under the lid is ok to cut, I did when I did the free ram air mod.

Ok just finished putting it all together I decided to leave that piece out and I connected that with the home made 3" PVC and rubber connectors
