  • O2 Sim question

I was thinking about gutting my cat since my county doesn't have emissions testing yet. My car is a 2000 and I was wondering if it had two O2 sensors or just one? If I remember correctly I think there is one before and one after the cat. I know I'll need an O2 sim so the check engine light won't come on but I don't know where I can buy one, I checked on Ftpp.net and they had what was called "02 extensions" but I don't know if its what I need or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping doing this will make my loudmouth exhaust quit back firing when I let off the gas.

You have 3 O2 sensors. "02 extensions" are not what you need.

I found a O2 emulator @ zzperformance.com and it says it works for our cars; also says I only need one for after the cat.

That would be correct. You can't do away with the two front O2 sensors, The PCM needs them to adjust the AFR. The post CAT O2 just monitors if the CAT is still there or not.

so if we put an o2 sim we would be able to remove the cat without any codes being thrown? would most exhaust shops remove the cat or would that be illegal

That wold be illegal. But the sim would stop you from getting a check engine light .

So I only need one correct? I realize its illegal but my county here doesn't have emissions testing yet and I have my own shop where I can make the change.

If you dont have the o2 sensor on your cat where does your air/fuel wire go?

What? No idea what you're asking, but as Brian said, the o2 sensors on either manifold provide feedback to the PCM about A/F ratios and allows it to adjust accordingly. The post-cat o2 sensor does not affect A/F ratios, only tells the computer whether or not the catalytic converter is working properly.
