• Cam Swap in a 3.4l

hey all i was thinkin about swappin in a new cam this spring, i have to somewhat rip the engine apart, because i need to tighten my rockers (wich i am deciding to replace with 1.6 ratio ones How much more involved would swapping the cam be provided i already have the car somewhat ripped apart?

what whould i have to do to get the cam out? Also, can anyone recommend a decent cam for my car? it's NA with intake, it will have the 1.6'es, headers, and in the future i plan a hi flo cat and a catback.

I just see that cames are like 80$ and i figure for the cost it seems like a good bang for the buck mod considering i have to rip half the car apart anyway, lol...

Also, any idea how much hp i would be puttin down? theres a 95 gt in town. and i would like to show him what an F body can do! (i doubt i'll beat him, but at least i can give him a decent run )

    thanks

You will have to take the front of the engine off basically to get to the CAM. Balancer, Power steering pulley, waterpump/timing cover, lower intake, lifters, rear oil drive, radiator (you can get by it actually without taking it out). Look at the Compucam powermax 2030 for the CAM. Kit from JEGS is 159.00 and includes new lifters.

If your going to replace the rockers with 1:6 go with 3/8 studs whcih means you'll need to change the bolts. ARP sells them (RS-11) about $50.00.

yep! If you go to 3/8 studs for rockers it will be about 40 to 50 for new studs. A quick list would be:

Gaskets: upper and lower intake, timing and water pump, throttle body

coolant (your gonna somewhat drain the radiator

oil - will want to change oil after a 100 miles or so with a new cam

if you have it all apart might as well do the timing chain

        Oil gear ring

        fuel injector rings

I think that covers most of it.
