Dont all A4 cars before 97 or something automatically come with 3.23's? So I would be going up one step, or is there another set of gears that I havent heard about?

            Spooty,

Change the gear and drop weight. If you are serious about running this car against someone, strip the seats, seat belts, interior door panels, most of the days, stereo, jack, spare, speakers, carpet. Strip that car, every 100 lbs, is approx. 1/10 of a second.

Also, keep the gas volume low and don't spin the tires....

Many guys with lesser vehicles have beaten those with better....

No, most automatics (all years) came with 3.08 gears. The manuals all came with 3.23. A "performance" option on the automatics was the 3.42 gears. (I've forgotten the code.)

Spooty, coils, and wires will help out a little on the bottom end, but will really help on the top end. I also gapped mine out .010" over stock, and ran 91 octane (that's all we get in the DPRK), and it was noticably faster at the top end. For a 3.4, it ran like a raped ape :D .
Also, make sure you give the PCM enough time to get tuned to the mods, so that it's running efficiently. And, oh yeah, another one that you can do, and undo, with a little work and a couple of bucks, is run a 180 degree thermostat, you can pick one up at Kragens or Autozone. They run about $5, there a bit of a pain to change, but you can do it without removing anything except the intake duct. This will cause the PCM to keep the engine in open loop, so it will run rich.

Thanks everyone, I will remove all the weight I can and try to get plugs and wires before the race. I dont have enough money for 3.42's yet :(
