car is stalling....

lately when the car is in drive and i'm stopped at a stoplight or stopped in traffic my rpms will nosedive down to about 500-600 which is probably 250 rpm less than normal. The engine constantly begins to surge up to 800 and then drop back down to 500 multiple times when i'm stopped. It even stalled out on me once and i had to put it in park and start the car again

if i put the car in park or in neutral the rpms go to about 1k and stay right there, no dipping or surging.

where is a good place to start trouble shooting? I'd have scanned the car with my actron but a friend is borrowing it and i won't have it for a few more days.

That's the exact same problem I have with my Fiero. It's seems to be a common problem for Fieros that no one solve.

But changing my egr and tube helped a lot. Maybe checked on that see if the diaphram might be rip or worn.

Also you might want to look at your TPS.

TPS is a good thought... though i just replaced it last year

i'm thinkin somethin to do with the throttlebody... TPS, IAC etc.

how long have you had the cam in the car?

did this problem start happening when you installed the cam?

cam's been in for 3 months and i haven't had a problem until now

are you m5 or auto... Mine did something similar to that when my clutch was goin out bc even though I had the pedal pushed in, it was still grabbing a little causing the RPMs to go down... yours might be totally unrelated, though, just throwin it out there

just a note, but that is a hydraulic problem and not a clutch problem

i had a chevy beretta long time ago,,,,,it did that,,it was a bad o2 sensor,,,and without ses lite.

sounds like a coil pack to me. when i have a bad coil my rpms go really low like it wants to stall out.

well no updates really since i haven't been driving the car and i wont get my scanner back for a few days.

coil pack, 02's, IAC... these are all on my list but they've all been replaced recently so i want to scan it before i guess

Its probably your cars response to its new paint job, it doesnt like it.
