  • Rev's bottoming when downshifting

Haven't been on in a while but it's still the best source I got for diagnosing problems. Noticed it a bit more lately and not sure what it may be so I'll see what everyone's theories or suggestions are.

What's happening is when I'm driving usually over 35 when I apply the brakes and the car downshifts its slamming the revs down to like 400, almost like it wants to stall. It seems to be worse when the air is on and only when its shifting form 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. Any theories? It's a 2000 3.8 auto btw.
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

Sounds like either torque converter lockup switch, or torque converter itself... but I'm new to transmissions so yours may be different... I do believe, though, that when cruising, the torque converter locks up in order to be more efficient, and when you hit the brake it unlocks and SHOULD actually send the RPMs up a little bit before dropping...

someone else should know more though...
