  • Rear main seal?

Ok so today I go to get my oil changed at the shop today and they showed me all the oil that was on the Ypipe and bottom of the bell housing.

My clutch also slips if I give it some throttle at a lower RPM. So Im guessing oil is causing that problem...

So is it my rear main? How hard is it to replace?

            Re: Rear main seal?

Part is 12.99 here and I already planned to pull the tranny. Ive pulled them before and wasnt very hard to me...

So I take it you guys think it is the rear main?

After tranny, clutch and flywheel is pulled, whats left?

            Where you at Kristen?

                  Re: Rear main seal?

its not hard at all replacing the rear main

the hardest part is getting the top bolts out of the trans so you can get the thing out

make sure its not your oil pan gasket though

Add some die to it and make sure it is the rear main. Then just use a blacklight. I always use die first , oil , A/C , and tranny. Will let you know if you have any other spots also.

Im sure the oil pan gasket is leaking as well. There is oil just about everywhere, and really bad at the bottom of the bell housing. I dont think the die will help... Great idea though.

Im guessing Id have to pull the motor to put in the pan gasket...?

no, but you have to lift it a little bit
